In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

In a similar fashion, the University of Pittsburgh’s independently organized TED talk event hopes to parallel TED’s mission along with creating a platform for University students and community members to engage in meaningful discussions with the speakers and other audience members. Through this event, which consists of a wide variety of speakers from various field of work, current university students will have an opportunity to expand their knowledge beyond their majors and degree concentrations getting an all-round, enriching view of the community they live in.
